The brand behind Black Hawk Helicopters is back with their yearly design challenge. Now in it’s 5th year, the Helicopter 2050 Challenge provides a chance for kids ages 9-16 to earn recognition, along with a $1000 scholarship and a tour of Sikorsky HQ as well as a chance to meet with Sikorsky engineers.
Helicopter Design Challenge 2050
This year’s theme is is sustainability. They want your child’s vision for an environmentally-friendly helicopter? More specifically, your child has five key questions to answer:
- What will the helicopter look like?
- What will it do or how will it be used?
- How will it be fueled?
- What are its “green” aspects?
- Explain how it’s an improvement over current helicopters.
Entries also require at least one digital drawing of the concept.
To prepare for the challenge, check out the free facilitator kit full of creative, fun activities to get kids thinking about flight and sustainability while growing and applying their STEM skills.
Entries will be accepted up through October 15, 2015. Submit entries (along with proof of parental permission) here.
