Foodie Fun for April Fools Day

How to make candy sushi from TheMakerMom.com

I can’t say if it’s by accident or design that most of my family’s April Fools’ Day pranks revolve around food, but that’s how we roll at Chez Moldofsky.

Here’s some foolish fun that makes my teeth hurt merely by typing the words– candy sushi!

Candy Sushi Recipe

To make the “rice,” blend marshmallow fluff with coconut flakes until it’s moldable and not too sticky.

For the filling, cut up slices of dried mango and gel fruit candy. You can also chop green Twistables into small bits that looked like scallions (green onions) and seaweed flakes.

My biggest challenge was finding green fruit roll up-type snacks to approximate the seaweed wrappers. After checking several stores, I settled for a green and yellow wrap.

From a distance, you might be able to fool the sushi lovers in your house, but this is a fun project for the kids, so it’s probably even more fun to enlist their help creating the mock sushi and April Fooling an unsuspecting third party.

In other healthier foodie fools fun, I shared idea for scaling an egg way breakfast up or down over at the Bedtime Math blog.

Last year I shared a look back at a web show featuring crazy April Fools’ Day recipes that my boys filmed when they were younger. Click to read up on delicacies like Kitty Litter Cake. Now that we have a dog in the house, the time is ripe for the boys and I to fool my husband with some of those gross-out recipes.
